Skin dryness occurs when the water content of the stratum corneum is sub-optimal. The skin thickens and gets rough when the skin is very dry and dead cells accumulate. When skin flaking and dispersal is too fast (sloughs away in less than 28 days), the stratum corneum thickens in an attempt to slow cell elimination. Urea accelerates skin cell elimination and clears dead skin build-up which allows the penetration of actives and removal of flakes. In addition, panthenol and botanical oils and butters contribute to the glide-on texture.
