It all began in Bordeaux, in the heart of the vines at Château Smith Haut Lafitte, the estate belonging to Mathilde’s parents. Caudalie is a unique story of love, nature, passion, chance encounters, and a sense of adventure!

During the grape harvest at Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas met Professor Joseph Vercauteren, Director of the Pharmaceutical Laboratory at the University of Bordeaux. He revealed to them that grape seeds contain some of the most powerful antioxidants found in the plant kingdom.

From that moment on, they began a collaboration with Professor Vercauteren and his scientific team that has continued for more than 25 years.

Inspired by the power of nature, Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas became pioneers of natural and responsible beauty. Just two years later, they launched their first three skincare products powered by grape seed polyphenols—products that are still available today.
